The four cost drivers
- Carcass (the box) — moisture resistance matters most around the sink. A BWP/marine-grade or moisture-resistant ply core costs more than standard board but lasts far longer in a wet zone.
- Hardware — soft-close hinges and channels, tall units and corner solutions add cost but are what make a kitchen feel premium day to day.
- Layout — straight and L-shaped kitchens are usually the most economical; U-shaped, parallel and island layouts add material and labour.
- Countertop & shutters — quartz vs. granite, and acrylic vs. laminate shutters, move the price.

Spend on the hidden, hard-working parts — the wet-zone carcass, the hinges and channels, and the countertop joint and sink sealing. These decide how long the kitchen lasts. You can be more flexible on shutter finish to suit your budget and look.
